Oboe Reeds

Howard produces oboe reeds in the style of Dutch oboe players (ala Bart Schneemann).

Shape: Hand shaped, approximately 7.3mm at the tip. May be wired depending on the situation.

Staple: Glotin 43mm or Chiarugi No. 5, 42mm (we find No. 5 the best for most oboes; larger staples heighten the pitch of the upper registers significantly, but will also destabilise/lower certain notes in the middle register; the opposite is true with smaller staples)

Gouge and scrape: 0.48-50mm with a 4-5mm tip

Total length: 67-68mm

Pitch: A - 442

Characteristics: Incredibly easy response in all registers, especially in the lower notes. Embouchure wise, they need to played with a more relaxed and open position. Very dark sound, with high resistance when louder volumes are commanded. Reeds are tested on a Yamaha 831 but has also worked on Marigaux M2 with great results.
